DIY Puppy House!

About a month ago we started a new adventure that is adopting a rescue puppy. We picked up a sweet little Chihuahua baby from Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue in Canmore and brought back her sister who we fostered. (And has recently been adopted, Yay!)

A week before we made the 8-9 hour round trip to bring home our newest family member, I created a special private little puppy house in the hopes that it would help our puppy adjust to her new home (and potentially provide a safe haven from our 10 month old baby that crawls at lightning speeds). The end result was gorgeous and functional, for puppy living and for decorative purposes.

How I Did It:

1. I took a beat up antique cabinet I had been using as a beside table, (that was a tv stand, that was a table for the record player, that was a..you get the idea), and had been in my fiancees family for as far back as he could remember and roughed it up lightly with some sand paper. Lightly being a key word because as previously mentioned, this thing was in rough shape.

 2. Now you have to understand, I am highly ADD, and I probably have 10 different projects on the go on a consistent basis. Along with that I am also highly indecisive so, after standing in Michaels staring at spray paint colors for 40 minutes torn between "Robins Egg Blue" (I wanted) and "Pretty Pink" (My fiancee wanted), I walked out with both. After cleaning off the dust I unloaded a full can of Robins Egg on the cabinet. And of course, changed my mind.

Nope.

3. So after getting over that problem I picked up a second can of Pretty Pink and double coated the whole thing. And all of this beautiful detailing on the cabinet just popped right out. I then used some hot pink latex paint I had laying around from when I painted my daughters baseboards and coated the whole inside. Once it was completely dry I stuffed my other Chi pups bed inside of it with some snuggly blankets and bam. Puppy house. The result was beautiful, and so so girly.

Lesson learned? Listen to Fiancees opinion to begin with and save time and $10.00.
